Pr etty clean early 140, people often seem to have an issue with judging the front corners.

Nice seats in that Westy. I wonder if it had something more interesting under the engine cover than the stock 67hp 2.0l. I drove one with a 911 engine in it and it was a hoot.

F unny with the double seatbelts.. Which do I choose??

That’s an aircooled 80-84 so it’s either the 1.9D or the 2.0. Neither is going to get you there fast. Even if you swapped you would need to add all the plumb ing for a wet engine.

Actually that seat swap removes the best part of the Westy captain chairs; putting down the armrests and watching everything go by while you crui se.

Well, double sockets for the belts, but probably just the factory belts. I’d choose the factory socket otherwise you’d have to listen to the mechanical buzzer.

If it was a diesel it would have the second grill for the radiator. I had an ‘83.5, the first year of the w asser boxer, but I think the first year of the diesel and the second grill  was ‘82. I drove a Westy diesel once and it had to be the slowest thing ever. 29 city, 29 highway - probably because the throttle was just an on/off switch...

Oh man, that buzzer was the worst.

Ours was an 86 with the 2.1 wasser, and all the tubes!

Oooo - that’s the one I want. If I was to build my perfect Vanagon it would start with an ‘86 Westy. Bronze, with the beige interior (post 87 were all Grey) , and the higher (hah! ) output 95hp 2.1 before they downgraded it to just 90hp.

I still want one even though I don't really plan on camping. I just love the design that went into every aspect of that vehicle.

It’s been 7 years and both my wife and I get dreamy eyed for every Westy that drives by - most of the time before we see it we hear the dubdubdubdub and recognize it.

We sold it when the first kiddo was born, it was the right choice, but dang we loved that van.
